It is said that they are the ones that cursed the island. They swore to bring a scourge upon any white man who tried to live there.

Padre Cordoza was first. Two days after the last native had died, the good Father was found laying at the edge of the village with a spear through his chest. Not a sould was found alive on the island. There was no one who could have thrown the spear.

The island remained uninhabited for nearly a hundred years, until it was discovered by a small band of white men. They landed on the island after a storm and decided it would be a wonderful place for the town they were seeking to build. They had left their native land looking for religious freedom and this would be the perfect place to have the life they'd always wanted.

Most of the company were left behind to till the land and build homes. The rest quickly climbed back aboard ship and set off after their families.

It was a long and arduous journey, but finally the ship returned with another in tow, bearing hundreds of people. They returned to a grisly sight.

The town was begun, but none of the homes were finished; and no one was about. The land had been turned over and corn and other vegetables had begun peeking their stalks above the ground. Out in the field were three bodies, watering the ground with their blood. Their faces were contorted in a look of horrid pain.

A bit of searching led them to the far side of the island. There they discovered fresh dug graves; one for each of the men they had left behind, minus the three.

After long discussion and numerous differing opinions, the people decided to stay. Here a town had already been begun and the ground had already been planted. Besides, on the ship there would be no guarantee that they would find a land as beautiful as this where they would be able to establish themselves, if they made it to land at all. There was no guarantee of that.

The ships had already weathered several storms at sea and were not in the best of shape. Their food was also running low. To starve at sea would be the worst fate of all.

Or so they thought.

Within weeks a violent storm had come up. The first casualty was the ship, smashed against the shore until there was barely kindling for their fires.

The storm subsided a day later, but the rains didn't. They continued for days, soaking the ground and drowning the few precious crops which had begun to grow.

When the rain finally ran out, the townspeople stepped outside only to discover a horrific sight. The rain had washed away the dirt on the back side of the island. There, staring up out of the sand, was a hillside of skeletons.

The men quickly covered the bodies over and set about building a ship. The woman began collecting food from the natural offerings of the island; the same foods the Indians had thrived on a hundred years before.
